Year 1 Blog 2025/26

As part of our new topic we tasted some fruit and vegetables in class today.  We thought about what they looked like and felt like and then had a go at tasting them.  We talked about how to keep safe when using knives and the teacher modelled how to cut the fruit. 

This week we started our new topic in Art - Watercolours.  We looked at the artist Emma Burleigh and some of her work. We watched a video of her showing us how to use watercolour paints.  We then experimented with the watercolours and had a go at some of the different techniques- using the side of the brush, the tip of the brush, splattering the paint and using water on the page before paint.  Everyone really enjoyed using the watercolours and produced some excellent art work. 

Today we received a special video from the coastguard who had found a message in a bottle.  The letter was from a lonely penguin who wanted to be friends with us.  The children were very excited to receive this letter and decided to write their own  letters back to him.
